David Cameron the Coalition Prime Minister has made a triumphant tour of European Capitals. In Edinburgh and Cardif he told jeering audiences that budgets would be lower under the Coalition but that they would have more powers to build a Big Society without resources. In Belfast he gave a similar message while expressing regret that none of his Ulster Unionist allies had been elected. In Paris and Berlin he told his audiences that in common with the citizens of the United Kingdom they could expect nothing that Britain could not be expected to assist the embattled Euro. His hosts are rumoured to have told him, ‘Just you wait swinehund you are on your own when the pound needs our help.’ The rumours that trips to Poland and Latvia had been postponed came as no surprise. All in all the trip can be regarded as a triumph for the New Politics.
